The 6th annual Fiesta, Birmingham’s premiere celebration of Hispanic culture and heritage, will be held in Linn Park on Saturday, October 18th from 11:30 a.m. until 8 p.m. With the goal of educating the public about the many different Hispanic countries and their cultures, Fiesta’s approach has been to do this through presenting the best of Hispanic art, music, food and dance.
Admission to Fiesta is free; however, donations to the scholarship fund are encouraged. Fiesta has awarded approximately $30,000 in scholarships to outstanding Hispanic students to help them pursue their educational careers at local colleges and universities.
The success of the very first Fiesta in 2003 confirmed that this type of event was something the community not only needed but embraced. Over 7,000 attendees enjoyed the first event and this audience his nearly tripled to over 20,000 patrons in 2007.
Fiesta gives Alabamians a unique opportunity to experience the best of Latin American countries in their own backyard! Patrons can journey through over 20 represented countries and experience their people, music, art, food and culture. It showcases that Birmingham is a community that encourages multiculturalism, sensitivity and acceptance.
And Fiesta has proven to be an excellent resource for our Hispanic community. Not-for-profit organizations attend Fiesta to educate attendees about the benefits and resources they offer. Businesses will also be on hand to inform attendees about their many goods, services and employment opportunities. The Health & Wellness Village will work to assess the community’s medical needs and provide educational materials and professional assistance.
