The Main Music Stage

Music is one of the basic elements of Fiesta. The Coca-Cola - McDonald’s Main Music Stage, located in front of City Hall facing into Linn Park, will featured a variety of Hispanic Music. Talented artists have entertained thousands of patrons in Linn Park throughout the day. In 2007, the main stage featured a smaller, yet more nationally recognized group of artists including: Cuban Ensemble’s Dance Show; Taboga, Cortez de la Sierra; Anais, and back by popular demand, La Conquista. Acts for 2008 will be announced soon!

The Arts Village

The Alabama Power Company and the Birmingham Museum of Art will join forces once again to host the Arts Village, this year located outside the Museum. Younger visitors will be able to engage in easy-to-learn, make and take art activities based on works by Hispanic artists in the Museum’s permanent collection. These activities include, making collages, figurative sculptures, creating tondo or round paintings of family, making Aztec calendars, and actively participating in archeological digs. Our younger visitors will also enjoy making The World’s Largest Balloon Sculpture or bouncing and climbing on large inflatables. Families are invited to tour the museum's permanent collection of Pre-Colombian art after they have finished making their own art work in the Arts Village!

CBS 42 Cultural Village

The Cultural Village, located in Linn Park, is always a favorite of Fiesta guests. In 2007 we featured 15 Latin American countries including: Cuba, Puerto Rico, Colombia, Guatemala, Venezuela, Argentina, and many more. We hope to host representatives from every country in 2008!

The Cultural Village features several one-on-one domino tournaments, a staple to the Hispanic culture. In addition, a large covered stage will sit in the center of the Village, where each country is allowed to showcase a variety of songs, dance, and theatrical presentations popular to their culture. Year after year, the Cultural Village serves as a colorful, interactive source of information for all patrons to enjoy. The cultural village features entertainment throughout the day from 12 to 5 p.m.

The Storytelling Village

In 2007, Fiesta was extremely excited to announce a new village entitled “Tell-a-bration” Storytelling Village. Located next to the Arts Village, across the street from the Birmingham Museum of Art, the “Tell-a-bration Village focuses on the interactive performance art form of Storytelling. Fiesta is very fortunate to be able to partner with three organizations on this very special initiative: The Jefferson County Library Cooperative, the Literacy Council and the Department of Foreign Languages and Literature at UAB.

Fiesta is truly blessed to have the opportunity to bring in an additional partner for the 2008 event - award winning, world renowned storyteller and author Antonio Sacre. Antonio delights attendees with his touching and humorous bilingual stories. His performance appeals to all ages and ethnicities. Sacre’s repertoire, tailored to his audience, includes his own stories of growing up bi-culturally in a Cuban and Irish-American household. Antonio’s stories motivate culturally diverse youth to learn English, while at the same time preserving their heritage.
